Fans of the beloved romantic comedy anime and manga franchise "Kimi no Todoke" have ample cause for elation, as the series is slated to make its triumphant return after a prolonged hiatus of nearly 12 years subsequent to the second season's premiere in 2011.

Fans of the widely popular anime and manga series “Kimi no Todoke” can celebrate as the show is set to return for a third season after a hiatus of nearly 12 years since the release of the second season in 2011. The original voice actors Mamiko Noto and Daisuke Namikawa will reprise their roles as Sawako Kuronuma and Shota Kazehaya, respectively. The animation for the upcoming season will be handled by Production I.G., the studio behind the first two seasons. The third season is expected to be available for streaming on Netflix in 2024. In honor of the announcement, the original author Karuho Shiina has provided a newly drawn illustration and a heartfelt message.

Shiina expressed her surprise and pleasure at the re-animation of the series after so many years. She was impressed by the performances of the cast during a voice recording session she attended and mentioned that the characters remain as captivating as they were over a decade ago. The voice actors also conveyed messages of gratitude and excitement to the fans. Daisuke Namikawa shared his mixed emotions of happiness, surprise, and slight panic upon hearing the news. He emphasized his deep attachment to the series and promised to deliver the best anime adaptation possible. Mamiko Noto expressed her surprise and sense of responsibility towards the project and conveyed her excitement and commitment to making the third season a success.

The story revolves around Sawako Kuronuma, a high school girl who is often misunderstood due to her resemblance to the character from the horror film “The Ring.” Despite her intimidating appearance, Sawako is a kind-hearted and timid girl who desires friendship. Her life changes when she meets Shota Kazehaya, the most popular boy in school. Unlike others, Kazehaya sees beyond Sawako’s outward appearance and befriends her, leading to a series of events that transform Sawako’s life and bring warmth and love to those around her.

“Kimi no Todoke,” created by Karuho Shiina, is a romantic comedy manga series that first appeared in Shueisha’s “Bessatsu Margaret” magazine in 2005. The manga has been compiled into 30+ volumes and has a large following, leading to the creation of several light novels and a visual guidebook. The manga’s success led to an anime adaptation produced by Production I.G, which premiered in 2009. The series has had two seasons so far, with the first season airing from October 2009 to March 2010 and the second season, titled “Kimi no Todoke 2nd Season,” released in January 2011 and concluding in March of the same year.
