Fall 2023 Anime Spotlight: “Berserk of Gluttony”

Though the name “Berserk of Gluttony” might sound like it’s connected to the legendary Berserk series by Kentaro Miura, they’re not the same. But that doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy this new anime.

Berserk of Gluttony

“Berserk of Gluttony” is a shounen-fantasy anime that marks the return of animation studio A.C.G.T. They’re back in the game after a year, just in time for the Fall Anime Season.

If you’re not up to speed on this studio, they’re the brains behind series like “Kino no Tabi,” “Freezing,” and “Orient.”

Berserk of Gluttony is one of the top 10 most anticipated anime series arriving on Crunchyroll this season.

Berserk of Gluttony Plot

The plot of “Berserk of Gluttony” centers around “Fate,” an unlucky boy cursed with a skill since he was born. This skill, called “Gluttony,” never sates Fate’s hunger.

He serves a royal family as their gatekeeper because his skill cannot fetch him another job.

One day, Fate devours a dying thief, realizing the actual potential of his power. “Gluttony” lets him devour the people’s powers, and he can later use these powers of his own free will.

So, as soon as he learns of this potential, he leaves his old job.

Now, Fate ventures into the world, trying to get stronger. He also takes revenge on everyone who humiliated him because of his skill.

But as he is doing so, he realizes that the skill of “Gluttony” has a strange relationship with his family.

Fate has so much to uncover, so he makes some loyal friends who accompany him during his journey.

Why the Anticipation?

Fall 2023 Anime Spotlight: "Berserk of Gluttony"

“Berserk of Gluttony” is based on a light novel series of the same name, written by Ichika Isshiki and illustrated by fame. This series is the most reputable work for both of these authors.

This light novel has released eight volumes so far, seven of which have been translated officially into English.

The “Berserk of Gluttony” light novel has also received a manga adaptation illustrated by Daisuke Takino. It has ten volumes released, eight of which are available in English.

“Berserk of Gluttony” plotline sounds similar to “Redo of a Healer,” as it is surrounded by “revenge” and “learning the extent of one’s power.”

All of this is without the Ecchi part, which was a turn-off for many anime viewers who wanted to watch Redo of Healer.

If you are looking to watch a protagonist’s revenge story, you should watch Berserk of Gluttony.
